PEKKA PIEKAINEN ARCHITECTURAL FLARED BAR RINGStunning Modernist Design - Sterling -
Size 8
Acquired From a Calabasas Estate
This incredible modernist Scandinavian ring is the Architectural "Flared Bar" sterling silver ring designed and made by famous Finnish designer Pekka Piekainen for Auran Kultaseppä Oy in 1975. This stunning ring is a size 8 - and due to band width I would consider that a firm sizing.
This ring is very heavy at 39.3 grams of 925 sterling silver. The modernist and architectural design has a wonderful play of light due to the precise flared silver plates! The ring measures 1.25" tall x 7/8" wide x 1.25" deep
and
is constructed of 4 separate solid sterling rectangular plates that are fused at the squared base and long the sides - then flaring out at the top of the finger, The squared heavy base carries
the following marks as follows: Auran Kultaseppa mark (eagle), Finnish assay mark (heart), Turku city mark, 925, X7 (1975). I consider the condition to be great! wear is typical of a 45 year old sterling ring which provide thar rich soft patina of age - There are no breaks, bends, or repairs - but here is heavier wear along the base as to be expected (see pictures). The ring can be sent off to be polished by a jeweler if you so desire. This is truly an amazing piece of Jewelry!

Piekainen is considered one of the greatest Scandinavian silversmiths in Finland and I have included more information about him and
Auran Kultaseppä Oy
below.
Auran Kultaseppä Oy:
(Aura's Goldsmiths) was a precious metals industrial and trade company that operated in Turku, Finland, from 1913 until the 1990s . It was founded by 11 goldsmiths , silversmiths and engravers as a cooperative called Osuusliike Kultaseppä. In 1937, the cooperative was transformed into a limited company called Auran Kultaseppä. In 1989, Hopeakeskus Oy (now Kultakeskus Oy ) bought Auran Kultaseppä Oy - absorbed the company, and moved production to Hämeenlinna, Finland.
Pekka Piekäinen
(1945-2004):
was Auran Kultaseppä Oy's chief designer At the beginning of his career, Piekäinen designed jewelry for Kaunis Koru , Viikinniemi and the Danish Viggo Wollny. In 1971, he started as the chief designer of Auran Kultaseppä Oy where he designed a wide range of silver utensils and jewelry for the company. Among them, the most internationally renowned were the silver watch cases made for the Swiss companies Omega, Tissot and Lanco , from which about 35,000 pieces of jewelry watches were sold around the world in the mid-1970s. Piekäinen made jewelry for Princess Diana and other notable clients, and is said to have been the only Nordic designer whose jewelry was sold to Tiffany stores.
In 1975, an exhibition of Piekäinen's production was made at the Finnish Design Center in Helsinki . The exhibition featured jewelry and watches as well as home silverware. In 1980, Piekäinen received the State Prize for the Arts Industry.
When Auran Kultaseppä Oy was sold to Hopeakeskus (now Kultakeskus ) in 1989 , Piekäinen left the company and founded his own company PlatinOro Oy in Piikkiö with Annakaisa Laakso . In 1996, it moved to Turku, where it still operates. In 2002, he was elected Goldsmith of the Year. -
